The Rio Grande Vipers Basketball Team is giving back to the community.

On Thursday, the organization, along with Jr. NBA, hosted the “I Am” Camp in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 50 campers selected by the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District attended the camp.

“We’ve invited these kids to take part in a basketball clinic today and we’ve invited six social workers to come in and speak to the kids about facing adversity and dealing with bullies and so forth, so not only do they get an athletic type clinic but they get a mental health clinic, which is very important to our organization,” said April Aguilar, Community Relations Manager for the Rio Grande Vipers Basketball Team.

Organization officials said this is the first year the Rio Grande Valley Vipers have hosted the event.
