CBS 4 SPORTS – Normally, it takes time for a freshman to adjust to high school play.
Los Fresnos Freshman Gerry Martinez is the exception.
In his first season, the rookie averaged just over 16 points per game. Come district time, Martinez was putting up 19.1 points per game.
The freshman has been an offensive foundation for a historic Falcon team.
Los Fresnos defeated Edinburg Vela in the third round of the playoffs to book the program’s first trip to the sweet sixteen. Martinez had a game-high 16 points under the Bert Ogden Arena lights.
Now, the Falcons eye a fourth-round matchup against San Antonio Brandeis at Littleton Gymnasium this Friday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m.
For this week, however, Gerry Martinez is our DHR Health Athlete of the Week.
