Senior Taryn Carroll evacuated one storm, only to run into another.
When Hurricane Dorian made landfall in Carroll’s home Bahamian Island of Abaco, the Carroll family evacuated to the nearby island of Eluethera.
Carroll wouldn’t be there for long.
After feeling uneasy in her new environment, Carroll received a call from her Aunt, offering a place to stay.
She crossed an ocean, but Carroll finally settled with her aunt in Brownsville, Texas. Not long after she touched down, Carroll found refuge with a new family at Saint Joseph Academy.
She shined both academically and athletically. As a member of the SJA swim team, Carroll played a pivotal role on a relay team that competed at the TAPPS State Swim Meet.
Despite the success she had in her new community, Carroll faced a second storm in the form of COVID-19.
Like her first trial, Carroll has faced weathered this storm with optimism and determination.
She looks forward to graduating alongside her classmates before traveling back to her home Island to work alongside her father.
For this week, however, Taryn Carroll is our DHR Health Athlete of the Week.
