The road has been a long one, but McAllen’s Aaron Nixon and Brownsville Veterans Memorial’s Albert Maradiaga have made it to the end.
From 16 to two, the Senior Sports Spectacular ended like it started–In complete mayhem.
After a gentelmen’s game of rock-paper-scissors, Aaron elected to run the course second.
Facing additional spins and other extra challenges, Albert got off to a shaky start, struggling to find his grip in the sack race. Despite the slow start, Albert made up time with great performances through the soccer and baseball challenges.
Basketball would prove to be a different story.
With an increased distance to shoot from, Albert exceeded the five-shot limit at the basket toss, adding significant time to his final score of 1:47 seconds.
Next up, the bulldog.
Aaron used his quick-sprint ability from the start, jumping out to a quick sprint off the initial spins.
The McAllen product’s race was smooth sailing up until the soccer portion, where shaky dribbling led to a missed shot attempt.
Aaron would make up time in the baseball portion, leaving the fate of this championship matchup to the basket toss.
Despite missing his first four attempts, Aaron sank the shot and raced home to the finish line.
With a time of 1:36, McAllen’s Aaron Nixon takes home the title of Senior Sports Spectacular Champion.
