Santa Rosa Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Juan Cipriano will retain his position with Santa Rosa ISD following a 4-3 vote to not follow through with a contract non-renewal.
The decision comes following a seven-hour meeting held at Santa Rosa ISD on Tuesday, June 2.
“He did it for his kids,” Cipriano’s Attorney John Shergold said of his client following the decision. “The easiest thing for him to do would have been to pack it up and go find another great job somewhere else.”
Cipriano’s contract was first brought to the Santa Rosa School Board on April 29. Cipriano turned to legal action following a 4-3 vote in favor of a contract non-renewal. Shortly after, Cipriano and his legal team appealed the decision, eyeing June 2 as a potential hearing date.
Following due process, Cipriano turned one vote in his favor, allowing him to retain his position as Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach.
Cipriano has won several regional championships as the Warrior’s head basketball coach. Cipriano plans to build on his impressive resume when he heads the sidelines for the Warriors’ 2020-2021 high school basketball season.
