Sharyland Cross Country Runner Arianna Gomez signed to continue her athletic and academic career at the Naval Preparatory Academy this week.
But the road to this point was not easy.
Despite competing as a four year lettermen, qualifying for four regional meets and two state meets and graduating with a 3.89 GPA, Arianna did not qualify for the Air Force Academy.
Following a medical exam, doctors deemed Arianna unfit for acceptance due to a previously fractured hip and a bone-weakening condition in her spine.
Despite the difficult news, Arianna kept running.
Eventually, the rattler got a call from the Naval Preparatory Academy, offering her an opportunity to study and run cross country as a Midshipmen.
Arianna achieved her goal to attend a service academy. For her determination and unwavering spirit, Arianna is this week’s DHR Health Athlete of the Week.
