Like most athletes, Mission Veterans Wide Receiver A.J. Gonzaque was left wondering what his immediate future would hold after his sports season was cut short.
Before Covid-19, Gonzaque was dazzling on the turf, leading his seven-on-seven team to Dallas Pylon tournament championship. His performance earned him Most Valuable Player honors.
Gonzaque will lace up his cleats as a senior for the Mission Veterans Patriots next year. Two years from now, Gonzaque is planning on lacing them up for a division one university after receiving his first offer from Mercer University. With one division-one offer under his belt, he will hope to impress more scouts should the season kick off this fall.
To prepare, Gonzaque has been training at his home, even going so far as to pull full-sized trucks to work on his strength.
His talent and accomplishments are impressive, but his continued determination has earned him the right to be this week’s DHR Health Athlete of the Week.
