McAllen – Memorial High School needed a win over cross-town rival McAllen Rowe to clinch a share of the District 30-6A title. They turned to their playmaker.
Senior Running Back Campbell Speights rushed for over 400 yards and 5 touchdowns. The star back and three-star-national recruit is committed to Navy, but in his last regular season matchup he was committed to nothing more than beating the Warriors.
His performance was impressive, but the news he received this week was comparable. Speights is a semi-finalist for the Mr. Texas Football Award. Just last year, Mission Veterans QB Landry Gilpin became the first valley athlete to win the award.
Could Speights be the second? Perhaps. For now, however, he is this week’s DHR Health Athlete of the Week.
