CBS 4 SPORTS – Week seven of the RGV Football season had no shortage of drama, but two teams shines above the rest.
In Edinburg, the Vela Sabercats faced a tough task against the Weslaco Panthers, but one they have overcome year in and year out. This year was a bit different. The Weslaco Panthers, led by Senior QB Jacob Cavazos’s 370 yard yard all around performance, got the win and now sit atop the District 31-6A standings. Cavazos accounted for four touchdowns in the win.
In Harlingen, the Battle of the Arroyo made headlines nationwide. It was an offensive showdown, but the Cardinals defense, ultimately, outlasted the Greyhounds. At the heart of that red-bird defense was Gabriel Martinez, who accounted for 15 total tackles, three for a loss, and one sack.
The performances were special, and because of their play on the field, Cavazos and Martinez are week seven’s Top Per4mers and our DHR Health Athletes of the Week!
