2019-20 Remarkable Women Finalist: Renea Perez

Remarkable Women

HARLINGEN, Texas – Back in December, Local 23 asked you to nominate a remarkable woman in your life. The submissions are in and we’re giving you a look into some of the Remarkable Women around the Rio Grande Valley.

Renea Perez, finalist, “It’s always been my passion to help women like of all ages, whether it’s a new mom or just through all walks of life.”

For Renea Perez, empowering women has always been something she aspired of doing. Which is why she decided to open “the Bod Squad Training” fitness studio for women. With struggles she faced in the past, her goal is to help women around the Rio Grande Valley gain confidence in themselves.

“People don’t understand that it’s not just the physical part when you’re working out. Exercise benefits so many things; mental health, emotional health. I want them to walk in and if they feel a certain way, to walk out of here like just feeling completely different, like they can conquer the world.” Said Perez.

From owning an all-women’s personal training gym to speaking up for women’s rights, her husband George Perez said why he nominated Renea as a remarkable woman. “She does so many incredible things and she’s like the most humble person that I know. When I told her ‘hey I nominated you for this thing’ the first thing she told me was ‘there’s so many other people that have done so much more than me, but I don’t think she realizes the impact that she has on the women here locally.”

Renea is a mother of three children. She says having her own business allows her to spend more time with her family. “The reason why I wanted to open my own place is that I’m able to bring my kids if I need to. We’re trying to juggle training and basketball games and gymnastics and this or that. So, it’s not easy but it’s worth it.”

When it comes to women tearing each other down and competing against one another, Renea has one message about women empowerment. “Anytime you have a thought of maybe cutting that person down, turn it around with maybe something positive.”

Renea is one of four finalists considered in the Remarkable Women contest. Local 23 will be highlighting their stories every Tuesday before the start of International Women’s Month in March.
