The NFL Season kicks off in just a few days on Thursday night with a Super Bowl rematch, but the Dallas Cowboys must wait until Sunday afternoon and a home date with division rival New York Giants.
News Center 23’s Beau Bagley catches up with Cowboys Insider Mickey Spagnola in this Silver Star Nation Report.
Beau: Mickey, thank you for joining us once again. Let’s talk quarterbacks. What’s the update there from the star on Tony Romo, still on the active roster despite that broken bone in his back?
Mickey Spagnola: Yes Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones explained that they will keep him on the 53-man roster. That way when he is healthy and ready to play, he will be eligible to play. If they put him on the injured reserve list with the intent to recall him, he would have to miss for sure the first eight weeks of the season, so they felt it was more important say he gets back in time, say six weeks, four weeks or five weeks, that way he is eligible to play.
Beau Bagley: Have you seen rookie starter Dak Prescott with the type of confidence you would want in a starter?
Mickey Spagnola: Well I certainly have in preseason. A lot of composure, a lot of poise, handled the things he didn’t do in college, or what he didn’t have to do. Be in a huddle, call plays, change plays at the line of scrimmage. I think from that standpoint he’s handled it well, he’s thrown it well, run when he should have, now it will get a lot faster in the season, get a lot more complicated, we’ll see how he does going forward.
Beau Bagley: Afternoon kickoff, Cowboys host the Giants on Sunday. Cowboys Insider Mickey Spagnola, thank you Mickey.
