The Dallas Cowboys are keeping that early winning streak alive with a 7-point win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The Cowboys are 3-1 overall with a bunch of rookies and a solid defense to thank.
Beau Bagley: Thank you, I’m now joined by Cowboys Insider Mickey Spagnola. Mickey, we can talk about the rookies all day long, but I thought the Cowboys Defense really played well down the stretch in the win over the 49ers, and now Demarcus Lawrence is set to return?
Mickey Spagnola: Yes, absolutely, he has been working out, keep in shape, get his conditioning up, and tomorrow for the first time since the four game suspension, he’ll be able to practice with the team. They feel good about Tyrone Crawford playing Left Defensive End, so I imagine that Lawrence, who played Left Defensive End last year, would move over to the right, more of the pass rushing side, and he led them with sacks last year with eight.
Beau Bagley: That big offensive line has paved the way for rookie Running Back Ezekiel Elliott, but we hear today La’el Collins will have surgery after not playing Sunday, how does that impact the line?
Mickey Spagnola: You want your starters out there, but again, the Cowboys had a starter sitting on the bench in Ron Leary, and he stepped in and didn’t miss a beat, with the Cowboys rushing for nearly 200 yards was evidence. What they need is to get Tyron Smith back out there, Chaz Green kind of held his own out there, had some struggles, but again as I said, when you rush for that many yards, somebody is doing something up there, and Zeke is starting to read that very well. This will probably be the best defense the cowboys have played so far when they go up against Cincinnati on Sunday.
Beau Bagley: Sunday afternoon, Cowboys host the 2-2 Cincinnati Bengals.
