Workers vote NO for union

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Efforts to create a labor union at one of the Port of Brownsville’s largest tenants falls short.

This week an official vote underway for Keppel AmFELS after a group sought to unionize employees. Out of 742 votes only 146 were in favor of the union.

The Southwest Pipe Trades Association was looking to represent employees in company wide negotiations. They say that despite the loss they managed to improve worker conditions by proposing the union vote.
