Willacy County officials held a press conference on March 1 to provide an update on COVID-19.

According to officials, there are two confirmed cases in the county. It was also mentioned that over 100 tests have been performed.

Willacy County Judge Aurelio Guerra emphasized social distancing should be a priority.

“Social distancing is an obligation that we have as an individual to do,” said Guerra.

The judge also asked the public to minimize the amount times they visit public places such as grocery stores.

Although people are still able go for essential needs, officials ask that the public to only go when it is necessary and limit the amount of people they take to run the errand.

Guerra added that citations to enforce the shelter-in-place order will begin this week.
