Weslaco ISD to enforce ‘clear bag’ policy at athletic events

Weslaco ISD

WESLACO, Texas – To enhance security practices and monitor spectator entry into all Weslaco ISD athletic facilities, district officials have implemented a ‘clear bag’ requirement for the 2019-20 school year.

“Safety is our priority,” WISD Athletic Director Oscar Riojas said. “Our athletic events always draw big crowds and we want our fans and visitors to have a memorable experience and be as safe as possible.”

The new policy regulates the size and type of bags that may be carried into WISD venues including Bobby Lackey Stadium, Sepulveda Gym, Wildcat Stadium, Aquatic Center and all other athletic facilities.

Permitted items include: bags that are clear and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12,” one-gallon clear freezer bags, and small clutch bags that do not exceed 4.5” x 6.5.”

The new policy will be enforced beginning with the district’s first home football game on Friday, Aug. 30.
