UTRGV receives $1.5 million for STEM Education

EDINBURG, Texas – The office of U.S. Senator John Cornyn announcing a $1.5 million federal grant for UTRGV for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education (STEM).

The funding is being made available through the National Science Foundation. The grant will be used for programs designed to get young Hispanic Valley students and their families in the interested in STEM related careers and experiences.

UTRGV says it plans to use a portion of the funds to produce a different type of outreach.

Dr. Karen Lozano, UTRGV Mechanical Engineering Professor, “It’s like an onstage extravaganza. Like a Broadway type of outreach. We have a collaboration between the engineering department and the theater department.”

University officials also adding the new outreach effort will also be produced in spanish.
