Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is urging those seeking unemployment to be patient.
The Unemployment Benefits System online portal is seeing a high volume of visitors due to COVID-19 layoffs.
“We are doing a year’s worth of work in about a month’s worth of time…” said Cisco Gamez with Texas Workforce Commission.
On TWC’s website, customers are asked to try the online portal between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m due to the need for assistance from Texans.
“Last week we were receiving over a million and a half [calls] in a 24-hours,” said Gamez.
One viewer, frustrated and desperate for answers was relieved to learn from CBS4/LOCAL 23’s report, despite the long wait times, benefits are going to be based a person’s date of separation, not the date of filing.
