U.S. Silver Medalist throws first pitch at new softball complex

MCALLEN, Texas – City leaders in McAllen celebrate as the first pitch at the Municipal Softball Complex.

2008 Silver medalist and member of the U.S. Women’s Softball Team Monica Abbott was on hand to throw out the ceremonial pitch. City leaders celebrating the opening of the softball complex located in the 1900 block of North Bicentennial. This is one of the final projects to be completed from the 2013 bond election.

Victor Seby Haddad, city commissioner, “This is a reflection of what is important to McAllen. Lifestyle and athletics and even more so the inclusion of facilities that can accommodate male sports, female sports. I think we have seen a lot of additions in recent time with McAllen doing all types of inclusion for everyone in our community.”

City leaders also adding the complex is the only one in the region featuring six fields, including batting practice tunnels. In addition city leaders expect an increase in visitors and spectators thanks to tournaments held at the state of the art facility.
