TxDOT urging back to school road safety

News

PHARR, Texas – As students head back to school the Texas Department of Transportation wants to remind you to drive smart and help keep school children safe.

TxDOT officials say in 2018 there were 63 traffic accidents in school zones in the Valley. Most of the crashes were due to failure to control speed, drivers not paying attention and failure to yield the right of way.

TxDOT reminding drivers to never tailgate buses and stop for flashing red lights. Violations can lead up to a $1,250 fine for a first offense.
