HARLINGEN, Texas – On August 18, 2019 at approximately 3:00 P.M., officers from the Harlingen Police Department were working traffic enforcement on Expressway 77/83 after the department had received complaints of vehicles racing on the highway.
During this time, an officer noticed a tractor trailer following too closely to another vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
While interviewing the driver, he became increasingly nervous. The officer requested to search the vehicle and after receiving consent to search, the officer discovered a duffel bag in the cab of the truck containing packages of a white powdery substance.
An HPD Narcotics K9 was called to the scene to continue the search of the tractor trailer. After the search, the officer recovered approximately 8 kilos of cocaine.
The driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Harlingen Police Department. The vehicle was impounded at the police department and is being held pending further investigation.
The driver of the semi-truck was identified as 49-year-old Floribeto Andraca from Brownsville. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine), a 1st degree felony. His bond was set at $75,000.
