Trash collection delayed, Drivers have contracted COVID-19, Commissioner says

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (KVEO) — Areas of Brownsville’s trash collection is delayed according to Republic Services.

In a statement to CBS4/LOCAL 23 News, Republic Services wrote, “Residents are asked to leave their carts at the curb until they are serviced. Republic Services is working to bring in extra personnel to help with the delays.”

Brownsville Commissioner Nurith Galonsky posted on Facebook on June 9th, “nearly 12% of its drivers in Brownsville are not working due to the virus so the company is making arrangements to bring drivers from outside the area to service routes.”

Brownsville Southmost resident, Manuel Villalpando’s trash was skipped last Tuesday and has piled up.

“I understand what’s going on right now, the drivers are out but this can create another health hazard into our community,” Villalpando said.

After a week of trash sitting in Texas’ sweltering heat, Republic Services did pick up Villapando’s trash after CBS4 contacted their media relations representative.

For assistance with trash collection, contact Brownsville’s help line (956) 546-HELP.
