BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Democrats in the Texas House are calling for a special session to discuss gun control.
As reported in the Texas Tribune, 63 out of 66 members of the house have signed a letter urging Governor Abbott in response to recent shootings. Among some of the proposals, representatives are looking for closing existing loopholes banning the sale of high-capacity magazines, and requiring stolen guns to be reported.
State Representative Eddie Lucio (TX-38), “Sometimes we make general statements, but in terms of gun ownership, in terms of safety, we have to make the right decision. And frankly take both sides into consideration.”
State Representative Alex Dominguez (TX-37), “Any time we see a shooter out there, we see them on TV, and they can fire 25 to 50 rounds without reloading. That poses a significant danger to our law enforcement.”
Representative Dominguez says that he would not support legislation that would affect hunting rifles or protective handguns.
