Texas DPS investigating fatal crash

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — According to a press release, the Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday at 4:18 a.m.

According to the release, a gray truck tractor semi-trailer reversed onto a grass portion off the highway, north of State Highway 4 when a white GMC Sierra pickup truck, which was traveling west on State Highway 4, crashed into the rear of the semi-trailer.

Officials said the driver of the GMC, 36-year-old San Benito resident Carlos Javier Venegas, died at the scene. Four female passengers in the GMC were transported to Valley Baptist Hospital in Brownsville and Harlingen.

DPS troopers are still investigating the accident and we will provide updates as they come in.
