MCALLEN, Texas (KVEO) — With students attending classes online this fall semester, back to school shopping is expected to be a lot different this year compared to others.
“Right when the pandemic came everything started turning into online,” Amanda Davila, who’s a student at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen said.
It is the new normal that has switched things up this back to school season.
“With the distance learning, having a computer, a printer is going to be really important,” added Raquel Barrera as she looked through the laptop displays at the chain-retail store.
An Investment usually used for clothes now shifting to these devices.
Antonio Torres who runs a Best Buy location in McAllen said sales on electronic devices have spiked dramatically since the pandemic started, but they are expecting them to go up even more as we get closer to the start of school
“It’s going to be really different but still the demand for the electronics, computers specifically, are in high demand specifically for that learning from home environment,” Torres explained while showing us laptops, their top selling item.
It is a spike in electronic sales seen nationwide. Many parents, like Barrera, are already looking into the new way of back to school shopping.
“I think what I’m going to save in clothes I’m going to invest in a computer, on a printer maybe even get a landline again and get a fax machine I don’t know,” Barrera added.
Retailers are encouraging the public to not wait till the end and take advantage of the deals that are out now.
