Suspect in animal cruelty case arrested and charged

MISSION, Texas – The man allegedly responsible for shooting and injuring a dog is now sitting behind bars.

The owners of Paloma tell us shots rang out in their Mission neighborhood, severely injuring their dog on October 9th.

Due to the high cost for treatment the owner said she had to give up her dog to save her life.

Charles Dean Lawson, 66, is the man Hidalgo County Sheriff’s said is responsible for shooting Paloma in the leg.

He’s facing charges for animal cruelty, non-livestock animal, a 3rd-degree felony.

Lawson was given a $25,000 bond.
