State employees rally for higher wages

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Multiple rallies across the state happening today in demand for better wages for state employees.

Earlier today the Texas State Employees Union gathered in Brownsville asking for support from local legislators. State employees claim they have not received a raise in over 7 years, similarly retired members have not received one in the past 17 years.

Elias Cantu, Texas State Employees Union, “We do need a majority of representatives to turn in a letter to the legislative budget board. We need them to fund pay raises for state employees. We’re going to continue the fight.”

They’re hoping to get an answer from the legislative budget board and not have to wait another 2 years for the next state session.
