SPI officials: 26-year-old missing Austin swimmer found dead

Harlingen, Texas (KVEO)—Authorities say they recovered the body of a 26-year-old Austin man that had been missing since Wednesday.

According to South Padre Island spokeswoman Nikki Sotto, the body of ChristDeshaun Reddix, recovered at 11 a.m. on Thursday 2 and a half miles north of Beach Access 6.

City police, fire, the Coast Guard, Cameron County life guards and Texas Parks and Wildlife had been searching for Reddix, who was last seen swimming on the 5500 block of Gulf Blvd.

Sotto says Reddix went into the water with two other swimmers. The two other swimmers managed to get out of the water.

The Coast Guard Sector was notified by South Padres Island Police Department of a missing swimmer near Beach Access 21.
