SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – At 3:40 P.M. the city of South Padre Island issued a local state of disaster for public health emergency due to COVID-19.
The city will be rescinding all special event permits effective 7 P.M. Monday and any special event equipment is to be removed within 24 hours.
Any activity after the 7 P.M. deadline will be in direct violation of city orders.
The city is urging beachgoers not to gather in large crowds and follow CDC recommendations.

They also wish to remind people that the city beach accesses are still open, the causeway is still open, and island business and restaurants are still open.
