Smuggler who attempted to run over RGV Border Patrol Agent sentenced

News

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – A human smuggler who tried running over a Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agent has learned his fate.

Today, a U.S. District Judge sentenced 38-year-old Miguel Mendez-Fajardo, a Mexican national, to 44 months behind bars.

His conviction follows an investigation revealing that Fajardo was harboring undocumented immigrants at his home in Mission.

Authorities attempted to approach Fajardo as he left his stash house. That is when authorities say Fajardo tried to run over a Border Patrol agent. Fajardo then sped through the neighborhood and eventually crashed into a ditch.

Mendez-Fajardo is expected to face deportation following his sentence.
