Seniors improving cognitive functions through nature


MCALLEN, Texas – 50 members from Molina Adult Day Care Centers in Mission, Pharr and San Juan spent time outside walking along the trails of Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen. The residents worked on an arts and crafts projects.

The Molina Healthcare Community Engagement specialist says spending time in nature has been shown to improve both mood and cognitive functions of the geriatric population.

Juan Rivera, “We want to take them out of their routine; offer them something different, something stimulating to them.”

Attendees also got to learn about the nearly 90-year-old mansion’s history.
