Scammers using Police Department name to solicit funds

News

HARLINGEN, Texas – The Harlingen Police department is issuing out a warning about scammers using the police department’s name.

The scammers claim to be with the Harlingen Police department and ask for donations “just to help out.”

These calls could appear to come from a local number and the Harlingen Police Department is encouraging anyone who receives such a call to report the incident to the Harlingen Police Department.

A week ago, the City of Harlingen released a similar statement in regards to the Harlingen Fire Department. That story can be found here: https://www.valleycentral.com/news/scammers-using-fire-department-name-to-try-and-collect-funds/
