Scammers using fire department name to try and collect funds

HARLINGEN, Texas – According to city officials, Harlingen residents are currently the target of scammers.

The scammers claim to be with the Harlingen Fire department and ask for donations to help Harlingen residents affected by the June 24 flooding.

The city is advising residents that the Harlingen Fire Department is not currently collecting donations for flood victims.

They encourage anyone who receives such call to hang up and report it to the Harlingen Police non-emergency number at (956) 216-5940.
