San Juan Basilica open for the first Sunday since closing because of COVID-19

News

SAN JUAN, Texas – This Sunday, the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle opened its doors back up to parishioners after several weeks of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Diocese of Brownsville made the announcement last week that it would open some churches.

Bishop Daniel E. Flores said that church members needed to wear a mask or face covering inside and sanitize their hands before going in or out.

“It’s good that they opened it already as long as everybody keeps their distance…”said Leticia Gonzalez, a church member.

Bishop Flores said once church is over volunteers will sanitize the entire church before members return.
