Washington– Senator John Cornyn announced Thursday that several airports in the Rio Grande Valley were awarded a number of federal grants.

According to a release, the grants will total $26,404,599. The grant is aimed as an economic relief following the distress caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The funding was appropriated by Congress on March as part of the CARES ACT. This comes through the U.S. Department of Transportation, says the release.

“As Texas reels from the economic destruction caused by the coronavirus outbreak, it’s important our airports have the resources they need to weather the storm,” Sen. Cornyn said. “I commend both the Trump Administration and leaders in the Rio Grande Valley who worked to secure these funds during this trying time.”
