Remembering the Queen Isabella Causeway collapse


SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – The city of South Padre Island will be hosting the 18th anniversary of the collapse of the Queen Isabella Causeway.

On September 15, 2001 four loaded barges hit a support structure of the causeway, leading to the death of 8 people and 3 survivors.

This Sunday at 1:00 p.m. a remembrance ceremony to commemorate the victims of the tragic event. It will be located at the memorial site on the base of the causeway near the entrance to South Padre Island.
