MCALLEN, Texas — More educational opportunities for law enforcement officers could soon be coming to the Rio Grande Valley.

The STC Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence which began in January has assisted nearly 1,000 law enforcement officers with vital training. Officials say South Texas College is the first border community college in the nation to establish integrative training for local, state and federal professionals in law enforcement.

Lt. Ruben Suarez, STC Police Department, “We’ve had good quality training such as cyber security. That is the in thing right now that most police chiefs across south Texas, including right here in the Rio Grande Valley are asking for.”

Upcoming training at the facility include a free 40 hour crisis intervention training for officers and an 8-hour course on cell phone investigative techniques.
