PHARR – According to a press release Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD has been awarded a $528,827 School Safety & Security Grant from the Texas Education Agency.
The grant will be used to purchase and install SMART door-locking systems to secure exterior doors at all PSJA ISD high schools and select middle schools, said school officials.
“Our ultimate goal is to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” said PSJA ISD Police Chief Rolando Garcia. “We are already working with the PSJA Security Department and campus administration to make our schools as secure as possible.”
According to the release the door-locking systems will be implemented by the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
“We are grateful to be awarded this generous grant from the Texas Education Agency,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “Thank you to our team for helping us keep our students and staff safe.”
