Over $6 million in Border Security for Rio Grande Valley

MCALLEN, Texas – The Rio Grande Valley receiving over $6 million to support Border Security. Congressman Henry Cuellar announcing over $2 million will be funded to Starr County law enforcement agencies for additional officers, over-time, new equipment and technology.

Hidalgo County also receiving its share of nearly $5 million. It’s all part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Operation: Stone Garden grant program which increases operational capability between state, federal and local agencies.

Sheriff Eddie Guerra, Hidalgo County, “It enables us to put more boots on the ground. To keep our community safe and all of our partners. But when we’re talking about keeping not only our community safe, we’re talking about keeping Texas safe and the nation safe because we are out there. Specifically out there helping Border Patrol in their mission of border security.”

Among the multiple counties in the state receiving funds, Hidalgo received the highest amount due to population.
