New tennis courts unveiled

MCALLEN, Texas – It’s game, set, and match for some tennis courts in McAllen.

Tuesday morning, the City of McAllen unveiled its new Travis Tennis Court located on South 8th Street South of Dallas Avenue.

Joining in the celebration were players from the Travis Tennis Club. Updates to the courts included resurfacing, additional shade, windscreens, landscaping, and parking lot improvements.

“So, we spent a lot of money fixing it up it’s a great partnership with the school district. Most of our tennis courts are owned with our school districts which we share them and so we have a new bathroom which is a big deal if you play tennis at all. Fixing up the court and parking lot, etc. so we are proud of it,” said Jim Darling, Mayor of the City of McAllen.

Lights were also added so the public can now enjoy a match in the evening hours.
