MCALLEN, Texas – A new selfie mural with the valley’s very own bird is now up in McAllen for selfie lovers.
An Austin muralist made her way to the valley to paint a green jay, a native bird locally known as the Rio Grande Jay.
The artist says the bird mural seemed fitting since it is a native bird being painted on native land.
“What I like about murals or just public art in general, is that it’s much more inclusive. Fine art, canvas art is something only a small group of people get to see in a gallery. But, art in the streets, everyone can appreciate that. For me, it’s a gift to the community,” says Helena Martin, the muralist.
The mural is at Quinta Mazatlan located on 600 Sunset Drive in McAllen.
