New Rule Requires Physicals for Many in School Marching Bands

The start of the school year is around the corner, and with that comes new rules for extracurricular activities including band.

A new University Interscholastic League rule requires physical exams or medical histories for students in school marching bands across the state

Students entering the first and third years of high school band and seventh and eighth graders who march in band need physicals

While a medical history form is required for marching band students in the second and fourth years of high school.

Although the new rule does not take effect until August 1, the UIL encourages all band members to get a sports physical before band practice starts at the end of July.
