Migrants fear Mexico will take their children

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – On November 1, 2019, Mexican Agency Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) showed up to the plaza on the other side of the border to tell Asylum Seekers waiting at the Gateway International Bridge that the Mexican Government will be taking their children.

According to some of the families, a common message of fear and uncertainty as they worry what will happen to their children.

US representative Filemón Vela told BorderReport.com that this equates to separation of families on the Mexican side which is a result of the Migrant Protection Protocols program enacted by the Trump Administration.

This week Asylum Seekers were given an option to go to a shelter about six miles from the bridge away from the tent cities. However, families waiting at the bridge tell us that this is the first time they’ve heard the option of family separation by Mexican officials.
