DONNA, Texas (KVEO) — A ceremony to honor the service of a Donna Independent School District K9 officer was held Tuesday.
K9 Officer Honz served with the Donna ISD Police Department for over five years. Prior, Honz was a military search and rescue K9 in Afghanistan.
Officer Honz’s handler, Corporal Robert Rodriguez, said Honz was great at detecting when someone needed help.
“He would pay attention to one child more than another and I’d ask about that kid and we’d find out he might be going through something personal at home or he had a disability of some kind. He had a talent to know when someone needed his attention,” said Rodriguez.
Several police agencies helped escort K9 officer Honz from the county vet in Harlingen to Edinburg, where the final goodbye was said.
