Man dies after being struck by car in Edinburg, suspect arrested

EDINBURG, Texas — DPS officials have one man in custody in connection to a fatal auto-pedestrian crash in rural Hidalgo County that occurred on Saturday.

According to officials, the crash occurred at 10:17 p.m. on Saturday on FM 2812 and Brushline Road, north of Edinburg.

The victim was walking southbound on Brushline Road crossing FM 2812 when the suspect struck him. The driver fled the scene, said the release.

After being transported to the McAllen Medical Center, the 22-year-old man died.

Police identified the vehicle in the incident as a silver 2013 Chevrolet Impala.

Investigators identified Daniel Alberto Najera, 28, as the subject and charged him for failing to stop and render aid.

Najera is currently booked at the Hidalgo County Jail.
