Youth groups construct third pergola at Tres Angeles Park

Local News

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Students from YouthBuild Brownsville joining the Brownsville Wellness Coalition to make a third pergola at Tres Angeles Park.

The park is most famous for the decapitation of three children at the hands of their parents at an apartment complex on 8th and Tyler streets in 2003. Now, 12 students are donating 18 hours of labor to build a welcoming space for community garden visitors.

Veronica Rosenbaum, Brownsville Wellness Coalition, “It’s a great way to enhance an area where nothing was happening. It’s great infrastructure to provide health and wellness for the community.”

Eliud Salinas, YouthBuild Brownsville, “Three children passed away in a pretty bad way. And it’s good to be here and do something nice for the community.”

YouthBuild Brownsville tells us they took on the challenge as part of AmeriCorps Day, a national initiative to improve communities.
