Woman celebrates grandmother’s 90th birthday in a unique way

EDINBURG, Texas – The times we are in right now are like no other. In a world where social distancing is the rule of thumb and shelter at home orders are in effect, people are getting creative in ways to stay in touch.

On Thursday, Georgina Flores celebrated her 90th birthday. Knowing that she couldn’t be there, her granddaughter, Amber Prince, set up a huge sign in Flores’ front yard reading: Happy 90th birthday!

“We wanted to get together again but of course during these times since we can’t,” Prince said. “I thought what could we do to make her day special.”

Neighbors stopped by to give their wishes and Flores even put out a chair to wave to those passing by.

“I’m just thrilled with her doing this. I really am,” said Flores.

If there’s anything Flores has learned over these last nine decades, it’s that you just adjust to the situation and pray.

“I pray two rosaries a day. That it will get better,” Flores said. “That life will get better to the way it was.”
