Woman Arrested for Child Endangerment

A Brownsville woman is behind bars after allegedly shooting a gun at someone with her three young kids in the car. On Sunday, police officers responded to shots fired in the 3000 block of International Boulevard. A resident reported that people in two vehicles were shooting at each other.

Officers pulled over Sonya Ferrel Hernandez in the 3200 block of Boca Chica and stated that a gun was in the center console. She said that a vehicle cut her off and struck her front left side of her vehicle and she shot at the suspect vehicle without hitting anyone.

Hernandez had an 8-year-old, a 4-year-old and one-year-old with her. She was placed under arrest and charged with three counts of endangering a child and discharging a firearm. No injuries were reported. The minors were released to family members.
