What is 60×30 TX?

Local News

The State of Texas is working to increase the number of young adults who earn their college degree.

Less than 40% of Texans between the ages of 25 and 34 have completed some sort of higher education.

By 2030, the goal is to increase that rate to 60%. Here in the Rio Grande Valley, the biggest problem is the high rate of low income families. But officials say there are some options.

David Gardner, Deputy Commissioner says, “There are resources available for people with very little money. It may not be enough, but we need to let them know that there are more resources there than people realize. With closing gaps, we thought we needed to let people know that college is important. We found almost everyone knew college was important. What they didn’t know was where was money available.”

Officials say increasing the number of college graduates will produce a more skilled workforce that will boost our economy.
