The city of Weslaco has made an announcement following the arrest of former City Commissioner John Cuellar who is one of three individuals linked to a bribery investigation conducted by the FBI on the construction of city water treatment plant.
Also arrested Friday, were Rio Grande City attorney Daniel Garcia and A.C. Cuellar Jr., former Hidalgo County Commissioner Pct. 1. They were implicated in a U.S. attorney indictment linking bribe money in exchange for government contracts and laundering of money, according to the document.
The statement comes from Mayor David Suarez who addressed the issue and stated that the city has been cooperating with the FBI investigation being conducted in the procurement and construction of the city water treatment plant.
Suarez also stated apart from the criminal investigation, the city has sued the engineer and recovered $1.9 million for the city. The city is currently in litigation to recover more tax payers money from the CDM organization who constructed the water plant.
