Weslaco PD: Suspect in custody after murder

Editors note: The suspect is now in custody. Victim’s name has been released by police.

WESLACO, Texas (KVEO) — The Weslaco Police Department is investigating a murder.

Weslaco police department responded to a call on the 2400 block of East 12th Street around 12:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive man in a car. He was quickly transported to Knapp Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as 36-year old Guadalupe Salinas Jr.

Earlier, Officer Eric Hernandez Public Information Officer said the suspect was on the run and was considered armed and dangerous. Suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Angel Herrera. He was on the run for over three hours.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area of Pleasantview and 24th street.

The victim has not yet been identified.
